I captured this winter landscape during a snowshoe hike in the Swiss Alps near Ollon in the Swiss canton of Vaud. As you can see, it was a beautiful sunny winter day! In the background, you see Culan mountain. Culan Mountain has an altitude of 2,789 metres (9,150 ft). The mountain lies in the Bernese Alps and is part of the Diablerets massif. Like most mountains in the Diablerets massif, it has a very characteristic and impressive appearance. I included a snowy meadow and pine trees in the frame to emphasise the beauty of the surroundings I was hiking in.
Culan mountain on a sunny winter day
I captured this mountain landscape with my Nikon D3x and 24-70 f/2.8 lens. No filters were used. I hope you like it!
Cheers, Johan 🙂

Yes, but that would spoil the nice snow Eva 🙂
Beautiful shot. Amazing colours. Just superb. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you !!!
Fantastic!
Thanks again Vitor. Glad you like it!
i can smell the fresh and clean air, i love it Johan. Absolutely different from the place i live, sometimes i wish e can switch place lol
Thanks for the compliment!
Awesome winter day, lovely shot! and stay warm, please… 🙂
Thanks and I will Yasmin. Buying good outdoor clothing does the trick 🙂
Beautiful country Johan
Thanks Mike !
Hi Johann,
Great image, the 28-70 is super sharp, huge dynamic range between the highlights and shadows, you nailed it.Did you use a ND to bring down the sky?.Well done.
Thanks again! The 24-70 is indeed very sharp David. I haven’t had it for long, but I am very happy to have it especially when I only want to bring one lens. Didn’t use an ND grad in this case. The sun was behind me and the camera can deal with this dynamic range without a problem. I did apply a gradient filter in pp though.
Fantastic beauty! Magical place!
Thanks again Mikko !
Patricia and Benedict: thanks. Always nice to be featured ain’t it 🙂
Randall and Meg: thanks for the kind words and for stopping by again!
Wat een plaat! 🙂
dank je wel!
Awesome! & congrats to be in the top photos in PhotoExtract! :))
Fantastic shot Johan 🙂
Tremendous image, Johan! Such an incredible scene . . .
Congrats to you Johan! I vote for a snow angel too!
I would love to be out in the Alps when it’s like this. Super capture of the 3winter beauty of the Alps.
Thanks Charles! You should take Debbie and William to place for a winter hike. You don’t even need snow shoes there!
maybe this weekend. Deb is still in the US but will be home late tomorrow afternoon.
it’s a nice hiking trail that goes slightly up towards Col de la Croix from Villars-sur-Olon. I can definititely recommend it!
Since we have an 11 year-old, we can still do silly things like this and get away with it. Except, the dog wants to join. There’s also the fox and geese game that children and silly adults play in the snow.
That smooth snow is wonderful. It’s just crying out for a snow angel – please tell me you did one after taking the shot?!
lol Gerard … I have never “done” a snow angel! Glad you like it 🙂
OMG – are you serious Johan?! We are going to make them next time we go out shooting. 🙂
That would be cool Athena. I like my snow crisp and smooth though!
I can’t believe you’ve never done a snow angel! All that snow around you as well!! Athena, I’m making it your mission to ensure Johan does one! Lol!
After we take the photos we’ll make them. 😉 And them take more photos. 😀
Oh – such a deprived childhood. Lay flat in the snow, plow your arms up and down in the snow = snow angle. :-))
Thanks Charles. Another mystery resolved 🙂
I am expecting some funky moves from you now the next time we go shooting Charles !
I almost missed this one. It’s a beaut!
Thanks Bill 🙂 Hope all’s well!
Things are going well Johan – but little time and lousy conditions have kept me from photographing much. That will change…sometime. 🙂
Looking forward to more of your work Bill. I’ve been and will be out a lot. Switzerland is rather pretty this time of year!
Thanks very much for the kind words Emanuele and Christophe! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Very nice Johan! 🙂
Immaculate nature! I see peace and tranquillity in this work… Beautiful shot Johan !
You know what Johan? I really prefer snowy mountains than (not yet) snowy Paris… 🙂
lol Patrice. Well I am pretty sure evening shots in a snowy Paris will be very nice as well!
Wonderful composition here…that snow is beautiful!
Hey thanks Daniel 🙂 Hope all’s well!
Thanks Thomas! This was taken very close to Leysin 🙂
Wilfried: thank you as well! You should get yourself a gps fo your new camera as well!
Johan, you are right. Let’s see if I can resist ;-)!
do you know when you will get the new one?
They annouced for 16th Feb. I was among the first 20 orders with the shop in Zurich, so it depends on their contingent. I hope they will be served first – at least they are quite big in CH. Hmmm… 😉
Cool! I saw the prices went towards what you are paying quickly on toppreise by the way … I am going to wait a bit 🙂
yes, I check prices too. Imagine all the poor guys who pre-ordered at other stores for full list price! Let’s wait until the first bunch of these cameras is delivered and sold out. Prices will raise ;-).
Not sure about that Wilfried. Depends on what will be announced next!
Yes, Johan, you are right. Next week will be very interesting, huh? Time will tell, and I don’t buy the camera for gambling on prices only. Just for playing around 😉
Looking forward to your impressions once you get it Wilfried. We should go shooting together at the end of Feb!
Yes, definitely.
I just say
I like 🙂
Johan, this is a very well composed photograph (I didn’t expect anything else in fact). The light hits the mountain’s structure softly, bau hard enough to create these beautiful shadows that I love so much.
Thank you for the geographical information, much appreciated.
Thank you, Johan!
Wonderful shot Johan
thanks!
Alan, Ирина, Julia, Mari,+Kurt, Johan, Nicholas, Sangeeth and David: thanks you all very much for the kind words 🙂
You welcome mate.
Beautiful landscape Johan! well done!!!!
Like this one a lot – strong lines and lovely colours / contrast. Makes me feel I am there in person. Well done !
ah… that fluffy snow again!
Wonderfully fresh and beautiful. It looks like I could reach in and touch that peak. An awesome capture Johan !
WoW!
beautiful scene Johan! I love the clarity and the stillness you captured here.
Excellent photo! You are a master! Thank you!
Yet another superb image Johan!
Wish I’d been there. Really nice, Johan , really nice.
Thanks Dane !
@Joel: thanks! Isn’t snow (and a mountain) on the way over there?
@Louis Lavoie: merci beaucoup!
@Sinead: thank you! It is a nice combination. Unfortunately we also have a lot of haze, so it’s not always as crispy as this …
@Athena: thank you! You should do that trail with your new snow shoes!
@Radek: thank you as well!
Very romantic and pretty scene Johan
Beautifully crisp winter scene Johan. I can almost smell all that fresh pine air. 🙂
Oh my. What a view! I think the combination of snow and a blue sky has to be one of the best things ever. Wonderful composition. Gorgeous!!
Real nice Johan Looks sunny and warm. Great stuff.
Beautiful landscape Johan – I wish we had some of that snow and mountains over here:)
what a gorgeous sight to behold anytime you want.. just around the corner ? how very very blessed you are.. oh and don’t worry .. I have decided to wear a coat, hat and gloves and boots when I go visiting anymore.. that way I keep warm and toasty.. while I enjoy the beautiful winter captures..
all good moves 🙂 Thanks for stopping by to check my winterscape!
You really are able to capture landscapes in a way that makes me feel the fresh, crisp air. Really beautiful, Johan!
Thanks Kerry. You always have a nice way with words 🙂
Fantastically pristine exposure, Johan – this is a wonderful image…
Thanks for the compliment Shawn!
Every time I see your wonderful shots Johan, you know it makes me wish I was there too!
Making the Swiss tourist office happy Louisa. Thanks !
Good to hear that Johan 🙂
Gorgeous. I am sooo jealous right now.
thanks! My guess is that you don’t have snow over there in Vietnam 🙂 Long time ago by the way. Hope all is well!
Long time indeed, and doing well, thanks. Was in Japan last week (travel was the main reason for my absence) and had quite a bit of snow there. But (Southern) Vietnam, not so much.
Hope you had a great time in Japan. Still want to go there one day! Glad to have you back!
No, we are not that far, we go there at least twice a year but for me is never enough! I love mountains, I was born in a town at the mountains…I miss mountains so much! in a month we go to the Alps again…I cannot wait! So your pictures make me so happy 🙂 Johan thank you 🙂
Glad my images make you happy Ada. Plenty of snow here right now, so hope it stays like that until you arrive
What a gorgeous image! I can only dream about such places as I sit here in Los Angeles right now, but this really gets my imagination working! 🙂
glad it gets your imagination going! What’s the weather like over there?
It’s sunny and 65 degrees here, with just a few wispy clouds. This will be the coolest day of the week, it will be mid-70’s by the end of the week.
that’s a lot different indeed. Sort of spring out there 🙂
really nice capture!
Thanks Alan. Any snow in Ireland?
No unfortunately, fairly mild winter this year. Last year we were covered but I didn’t have my DSLR back then, lol just my luck.
Pity, but I can imagine Irish weather will give you enough drame to include in scenery anyway Alan!
Ah it does Johan, just gotta catch it!
Very true Alan. Same goes for the Alps 🙂
Mooi plaatje 🙂
dank je wel 🙂
Dietmar, Mark, Sumit, Shirley and Francis: glad you like it 🙂
wonderful, Johan. I can smell the fresh mountain air from here. makes me want to visit the swiss alps again 🙂
Ahhh Superb image, Johan. Really like the light and this wonderful blue sky.
Lovely shot!
Beautiful shot Johan!
